  • Oats: Range from 110 to 130 bu/ac
  • Barley: Range from 65 to 110+ bu/ac
  • Note: Some loss of quality in spring cereals due to wet harvest conditions

Oilseeds

  • Canola: Yields range from 30 to 70 bu/ac, with average at 45 bu/ac
  • Flax: Harvest nearing completion
  • Sunflowers: Harvest started, some producers waiting for crops to dry down

Pulses & Soybeans

  • Field Peas: Complete, yields 30 to 75 bu/ac, averaging approximately 60 bu/ac
  • Soybeans: Ongoing, yields range from 30 to 55 bu/ac
  • Dry Beans: Nearing completion

Regional Highlights

Southwest

Progress: 91%

Favorable harvest conditions early week. Winter cereals at 3-4 leaf stage. Spring wheat yields 65-70 bu/ac, some exceeding 90 bu/ac. Canola yields 40-60 bu/ac.

Northwest

Progress: 92%

Precipitation halted operations. Spring wheat yields 70-80 bu/ac. Canola yields vary 30-50 bu/ac. Some severe lodging contributing to slow harvest.

Central

Progress: 98%

Rapid progress under dry conditions. Canola majority 45-55 bu/ac, top fields approaching 70 bu/ac in Pembina Valley. Soybean yields approximately 45 bu/ac average.

Eastern

Progress: 91%

Spring wheat yields 60-70 bu/ac, protein 14.5%. Oat yields 120-130 bu/ac. Canola average 35-55+ bu/ac. Soybean yields 40-50+ bu/ac range.

Interlake

Progress: 93%

About 95% complete. Spring wheat yields 65-70 bu/ac. Oat yields average 130 bu/ac, barley 80 bu/ac. Canola yields 30-60 bu/ac. Grain corn estimates 90-110 bu/ac.

Livestock & Forage

Current Status:

  • Silage corn harvest nearing completion
  • Pastures have gone dormant for the season
  • Many operations have begun weaning
  • Recent rains creating muddy conditions in pastures and corrals
  • Producers reporting very good cattle prices
  • Most producers secured adequate winter feed supplies

Feed Supply Concerns:

Regions that experienced significant dry conditions are facing shortages and are sourcing feed from areas that received more moisture and achieved better yields.

  • Concern: Lowest soil moisture levels across all provinces
  • Notable: Hot, dry weather supported rapid harvest pace
  • Challenge: Fall-seeded crop quality below 5-year averages

Saskatchewan

  • Strength: Most crops at or near 100% completion
  • Concern: Significant regional variation in soil moisture
  • Notable: West-central and northeast regions leading in harvest
  • Challenge: Some areas received limited precipitation

Manitoba

  • Strength: Good yields and quality in many areas
  • Concern: Corn and sunflower harvest still in early stages
  • Notable: Central region leading with 98% completion
  • Challenge: Wet conditions slowing work in some regions

📊 Overall Prairie Assessment

The 2025 harvest across the Prairie provinces is progressing well above historical averages, with most major crops nearly or fully harvested. Key concerns include dry soil conditions in Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan entering winter, while Manitoba experiences more variable moisture conditions. Feed supplies are generally adequate across all provinces, though some regional shortages exist. Producers across all three provinces are hoping for additional precipitation before freeze-up and adequate winter snowfall to replenish soil moisture for the 2026 growing season.
